Rev. Dr. L. Moriah
Lionel was born in Guyana, South America, where he grew up, achieved his early education, became a child of God by faith in Jesus Christ, and later received the call to Christian ministry, while a member of Wismar Baptist Church. It was there also he met and married the beautiful Jemell and they are grateful parents of five children and three grand children. Upon coming to Canada, he furthered his education at Atlantic Baptist College (ABU), Moncton; St. Thomas University, Fredericton; and Acadia Divinity College, Wolfville. In 1997 he received his Doctor of Ministry degree through Acadia Divinity College.
Rev. Dr. Lionel Moriah became the John Gladstone Associate Professor of Preaching and Practical Theology and Dean of Chapel, at Acadia Divinity College in July 2005. Prior to that, he served in a number of Churches for close to 20 yrs in Nova Scotia. Highlights: Pastor, Cornwallis Street Baptist Church, 1995-2005; Moderator, African United Baptist Association, 1998-2000; Chaplain, Halifax Regional Police, 1997-2003; Pastor, Morristown United Baptist Church/ Lake Paul Fellowship, 1988-1995; Pastor, Lockeport and First Ragged Island United Baptist Churches, 1985-88. Affiliated: President, Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches, 2003-04; Board of Directors: Atlantic Baptist College (ABU) 1991-93; Canadian Baptist Ministries, 2000-03.
Lionel enjoys gardening, fishing, reading, playing with the guitar, walking and other physical exercise. Time alone with Jemell, and times of personal meditation are of great importance to him. His great passion is preaching and teaching God’s word.
