I would like to
extend my congratulations to the Council on African
Canadian Education (CACE) on the official launch of
your website. The Department of Education values the
important role CACE plays in articulating the educational
needs of the African Canadian communities in Nova
Scotia, and assisting the Government in developing
policies, services and programs to improve the educational
achievement of African Canadian students and adult
learners.
In this era of instant
communication and information technology, people who
want information or to reach an organization go to
the web as a matter of course. The launch of your
website is therefore a very significant step in reaching
your clientele and the public.
The Government of
Nova Scotia recognizes the needs of our increasingly
diverse student population. The BLAC Report on Education
has played a significant role in raising public consciousness
on the need to improve the educational achievement
of African Canadian students. As a result, the Department
is committed to addressing those recommendations within
the BLAC Report that require action to further enhance
the educational opportunities for African Canadians
in Nova Scotia.
Parents, community organizations, and indeed all Nova
Scotians seek to play a role in improving our school
system. Through your website, CACE can play a role
in helping dedicated educators and community members
understand the on-going reforms, as well as facilitating
input from educators and the African Canadian communities.
Sincerely,
Jamie Muir
Minister of Education
